book description: George Adams nervously responds to his first basement fire. The heat is more intense than he'd expected. George abandons Lt. Donovan when his cross-threaded air hose comes loose. Donovan fights the fire alone, and George hates himself for making another mistake. He fears he might not have what it takes to be a firefighter.
