The purpose of this inquiry was to determine if I, a Professional Development Coach, could positively impact the attitudes of teachers toward professional development. This qualitative study took place during the first year implementation of a building-based coaching model. Data was collected through Pre and Post Surveys, an Interaction Log, and Grade Level Team Interviews. The results were analyzed and major themes extrapolated. Findings indicated a positive increase in the attitudes as measured from Fall 2007 to Spring 2008. Implications explored in the last chapter include how teachers commonly describe and/or perceive professional development, patterns in the types of problems and solutions, factors that impact and/or offset the implementation of coaching, how a coaching approach impacts the beliefs and attitudes of teachers, and, lastly, recommendations for further research.Rather than waiting around for her to ask for help, I volunteered to teach her second grade students how to write a narrative story from beginning to end with focus mini-lessons on leads and transitions, character traits, and settinganbsp;...
